Automatist.org (Michael Murtaugh) conducts research in interactive media and applies this work to real-word projects: designing and creating websites for clients. Much of the research concerns digital collections: designing techniques to expose and exploit the variety of connections that exist between the items of a collection. Following on work as a member of the Interactive Cinema Group at the MIT Media Lab, I am interested in "storytelling systems." How can the computer aid in the process of storytelling? When does documentation become a documentary? How does one best address a new visitor with perhaps little or limited connections to a given story.
